A close look at the spatial structure implied by the CAR and SAR models

چکیده
Modeling spatial interactions that arise in spatially referenced data is commonly done by incorporating the spatial dependence into the covariance structure either explicitly or implicitly via an autoregressive model. In the case of lattice (regional summary) data, two common autoregressive models used are the conditional autoregressive model (CAR) and the simultaneously autoregressive model (SAR). Both of these models produce spatial dependence in the covariance structure as a function of a neighbor matrix W and often a 1xed unknown spatial correlation parameter. This paper examines in detail the correlation structures implied by these models as applied to an irregular lattice in an attempt to demonstrate their many counterintuitive or impractical results. A data example is used for illustration where US statewide average SAT verbal scores are modeled and examined for spatial structure using di4erent spatial models. c © 2003 Elsevier B.V. An Investigation on the Parameters Influencing the Pounding in Highway Bridges
The present aim of this study is to investigate the effect of different parameters influencing pounding in highway bridges. Pounding is the result of a collision between two parts of the deck and/or the deck and abutments at the separation distance during the earthquake. In the present study, the period ratio of the adjacent frames, ground motion spatial variation, and soil-structure interacti...
متن کاملAssessment of Spatial Structure of Groundwater Quality Variables Based on the Geostatistical Simulation
Our main objective in the present study was to assess the spatial variation of chemical and physical water properties. Prior to the design of groundwater quality monitoring networks, it is essential to investigate the spatial structure of the groundwater quality variables. A case study is presented which used ground water quality observations from groundwater domestic wells in the Dameghan, Ira...
متن کاملThe Extended Sub-look Analysis In Polarimetric SAR Data For Ship Detection
The monitoring of maritime areas with remote sensing is essential for security reasons and also for the conservation of environment. The synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can play an important role in this matter by considering the possibility of acquiring high-resolution images at nighttime and under cloud cover. Recently, the new approaches based on the sub-look analysis for preserving the infor...
متن کاملAssessment of soil property spatial variation based on the geostatistical simulation
The main objective in the present study was to assess the spatial variation of chemical and physical soil properties and then use this information to select an appropriate area to install a pasture rehabilitation experiment in the Zereshkin region, Iran. A regular 250 m grid was used for collecting a total of 150 soil samples (from 985 georeferenced soil pits) at 0 to 30, and 30 to 60 cm layers...
متن کاملFitting Conditional and Simultaneous Autoregressive Spatial Models in hglm
We present a new version (> 2.0) of the hglm package for fitting hierarchical generalized linear models (HGLMs) with spatially correlated random effects. CAR() and SAR() families for conditional and simultaneous autoregressive random effects were implemented. Eigen decomposition of the matrix describing the spatial structure (e.g., the neighborhood matrix) was used to transform the CAR/SAR rand...
